But seriously, unless you’re driving a manually-shifted-into-4wd-with-a-transfer-case (and also don’t have ABS) ....

This wasn’t even their first video on this topic, but their earlier ones made so many people angry that they had to be a little more scientific (but not really scientific) about it. It’s an interesting phenomenon.
Also, no volume of tweets is going to make it so people don’t drive fast in the snow. For as long as I can remember, people drive too fast for the conditions every time it snows, and crashes ensue for no reason.
The interstate exit we take has a nasty sharp radius curve to it, and almost every single storm all winter someone overshoots it and goes down into a gully between the off- and on-ramps where there’s no hope of self-recovery, but also little chance of injury with nothing really to hit. So I get to chuckle, every time, at some fool’s tracks down into Never Land. Totally avoidable.

This is why I keep an anchor dangling out my trunk, suspended by a small rope. With a jack knife on my dash, I’m ready to upgrade my stopping power at a moments notice.

That’s why I like to do the SSJ’s snow brake adjustments right in front of the police station. (Well, that and because the parking lot has markers so I can measure the stopping distance easier.) It usually draws a crowd too. Because who doesn’t want to see a 7000lbs SUV going sideways?

Heh, totally anecdotal, but this reminds me of a story my former cubemate once told me.
He was driving his old 80's Subaru legacy in the snowy mountains on a twisty road lined with big snowbanks. He was with his mom, so he was just driving at a normal slowish, cautionary speed. Unfortunately a Honda Accord driven by someone very impatient got behind him and began to tailgate him, not leaving nearly enough room to brake should he have to .
Finally, my former co-worker had had enough: On a slow, low speed corner, he just didn’t really slow down and took the corner at as close to 10/10ths as he could manage. This particular former cubemate also owns a lotus E lise that he regularly takes to the racetrack . He is a good driver.
When he looked in his mirror, the Honda was no longer tailgating him. The Honda was instead stuck in a snow bank. Problem solved.

The problem I have whether snow vs all season and similar debates is that people are making a false assumption about new tires or a properly maintained vehicle when I would say that a disturbing number in the road are far from it. In addition to functionoverfadhion the false assumption the driver knows what they’re doing per the conditions.

If we ever get a decent snow here it would be fun to try this in my Disco. Same vehicle you could get:
Full 4WD - Center locked, TC enabled, ABS enabled
Traditional 4WD - Center locked, TC disabled, ABS enabled
Old School 4WD - Center locked, TC disabled, ABS disabled
Full AWD - Center unlocked, TC e nabled, ABS e nabled
Medicore AWD - Center unlocked, TC disabled, ABS enabled
Terribad AWD - Center unlocked, TC disabled, ABS disabled

That would be fun! For sure I’ve played with ABS disabled vs enabled, and in loose snow or very slippery surfaces, ABS does not decrease stopping distance; quite the opposite - it might allow you to steer safely, but it doesn’t make you stop faster. I have had some interesting discussions with people about this.

Ooo Lawrence PD! I actually got to stop for a truck that spun into the ditch on the interstate while driving to Lawrence last night. Luckily they were able to get out with 4wd and we didn’t need to get my straps/kitty litter out. The whole road was just a sheet of ice for the second time in 2 weeks. We’re talking tap your brakes and they lock up immediately kind of ice.

But AWD does allow for more reliable drivetrain braking in slick conditions. Marginally so, but it helps. Once you hit the brakes, everyone is basically on a level playing field.
